GRAYSON Authorities believe a report of a downed plane Monday afternoon in the area of Bay Creek Park was actually an unauthorized landing and takeoff on private land.
Just after noon, police and fire personnel were dispatched to the 100 block of Ozora Road after a resident reported a low-flying, small engine plane possibly crashing.
Gwinnett County Fire Department spokesman Capt. Thomas Rutledge said the caller said the engine seemed to stall and that he heard a popping sound.
There were no reports of a fire or explosion, Rutledge said.
Fire and police units, aided by a Gwinnett County police helicopter, searched the area but found no sign of the plane.
Another witness reportedly told authorities she saw the plane land briefly in a field before taking off again.
"Any info about the plane and/or pilot will be forwarded to the Federal Aviation Administration," said Gwinnett police spokesman Cpl. David Schiralli.
