Robert Nelson “Bob” Dunagan, Sr., age 66, of Brunswick, died Monday, February 01, 2010 at the Medical College of Augusta after a long and courageous battle with cancer. Bob was born in Lawrenceville, Georgia and was an honor graduate of Central Gwinnett High School. While there he lettered in football all 4 years and served as the President of his senior class. After high school he attended Emory University and graduated from the University of Georgia. He was a member of the Kappa Alpha Fraternity at both schools. His career with Allstate Insurance Company began in 1966 and he went on to found The Dunagan Agency. He won numerous awards for Excellence including Allstates top award, the “Chairman's Inner Circle”, prior to his retirement from the Agency in 2000. Bob was an avid angler and boater who enjoyed cruising the inter-coastal waterways and was a member of several local fishing clubs. He was a member of and held offices in the St. Simons Island Offshore Fishing Club and the 2 Way Sport Fishing club. He also was instrumental in the formation of the Golden Isles King Fish Classic (GIKFC) and served on the Board of Directors where he was involved in the fundraising and organization of the events. Bob himself was a successful tournament angler and won numerous tournaments and prizes including several boats and motors. He was especially proud of winning the GIKFC himself. He was preceded in death by his father, Robert Decator Dunagan; his mother, Lois Nelson Dunagan; and his mother-in-law, Audrey Lee “Me Ma” Owens. He is survived by his wife of 33 years, Harriet Owens Dunagan; two sons, Robert N. Dunagan, Jr., and Michael Ray Garris (Julie); two daughters, Deborah Paige Hallstrom (Anders) and Cindy D. Dobbs (Mary Ann); Five grandchildren, Jakob, Josefin and Joshua Hallstrom, Casey Dobbs and Kellen Garris; a brother, Marion Decator Dunagan; two sisters, Ruth Wood (Harry) and Norma Huff (Donald); three brothers-in-law, William L. “Bill” Owens (Judy), Julius J. Owens (Carol), and Steve M. Owens (Ann); a sister-in-law, LeeAnn Lee (Nick); and numerous nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held on Friday, February 5th from 6:00 to 8:00 pm at the funeral home.A celebration to honor Bob's life will be held on Saturday, February 6, 2010 at 11:00 am in the Chapel of Edo Miller and Sons Funeral Home in Brunswick, GA with Dr. W.L. Owens and Reverend Harry Wood officiating.
