Parkview's McGehee hired at Kennesaw Mountain

Parkview assistant football coach Chad McGehee has been hired as the new head football coach at Kennesaw Mountain in Cobb County.

McGehee, the Panthers' defensive coordinator, also worked previously at Grayson from 2000 to 2005. He played college football at Alabama.

North holds Hall of Fame induction

The North Gwinnett Athletic Hall of Fame induction ceremony, originally scheduled for last month but delayed by winter weather, will be held Friday between the Bulldogs' varsity basketball games at approximately 8 p.m.

Former North athletes Wyatt Brown (baseball), Taylor Forrester (baseball), Sarah Reagin (cheerleading), Brittni Westfall (cheerleading), Nicole DiMercurio (cross country/track), Brittlan Wall (equestrian), Tyler Jarry (football), Mikey Tamburo (football), Megan Kolts (soccer), Kelly Penston (soccer), Jessica Sapp (soccer), Brittany Broome (softball), Kacey Martin (softball) and Megan Carnell (volleyball) are scheduled for induction.

The following teams also will be honored: 2008 football, 2009 girls swimming, 2009 girls soccer, 2008 girls cross country and 2009 girls cross country. Last season's girls cross country champions also will receive their state championship rings at the event.

Braves' McCann hosts hitting clinic

Atlanta Braves all-star catcher Brian McCann will host his annual hitting clinic Saturday at McCann's Windward Baseball Academy in Alpharetta. The Duluth grad's clinic is limited to the first 70 baseball players who register.

The event is from 1 to 3:30 p.m. and each player receives an autographed photo, a personal photo with McCann and time with McCann in the batting cage. Cost is $200.

Falcons' Smith to speak at FCA Gwinnett banquet

Atlanta Falcons head coach Mike Smith will be the featured speaker at the Fellowship of Christian Athletes Gwinnett's 2010 Awards Banquet, scheduled for March 18 at North Metro First Baptist Church in Lawrenceville.

The 7 p.m. fundraiser, which also features a silent auction with sports memorabilia, will honor Gwinnett coaches and student-athletes who represent the FCA values. The awards include male and female student-athletes of the year, cheerleader of the year and coach of the year.

Hebron plans 5K fundraiser

Hebron Christian Academy has created a FundDRun, a March 13 5K run/walk that will benefit the senior class' mission trip to the Dominican Republic. The race will be on the Hebron campus, beginning at 10 a.m.

Registration is $20 before March 1, then $25 after. Students can run for $18. The course will follow pavement, grass and wooded trails and is open to runners ages 6 and up.

Arena Football team to host tryouts in Suwanee

The Cleveland Gladiators of the Arena Football One league will host an open player tryout Feb. 27 at the Silverbacks Sports Center in Suwanee.

The tryout is coordinated by Gladiators line and special teams coach Brennen Booth, also an assistant football coach at Duluth, and by Gladiators director of player personnel Ron Selesky.
