Buford boasts cheapest natural gas

BUFORD -- If you buy natural gas from the city of Buford, you're getting the best prices around, according to Chairman Phillip Beard and the Buford City Commission.

In head-to-head comparison with other natural gas providers in Georgia, Buford posts the lowest rate based on 12 months total sample bills of typical residential customer's average use, according to a chart provided to the news media Monday night by the Board of Commissioners.

Beard said the city is selling natural gas cheaper than other providers, including Georgia Natural Gas, Walton EMC, Scana and others.

"We want to thank our staff for the work they have done putting all this together," Beard said. "We've got a lot of customers outside the city."

The chart was based on a customer's average use of 717 therms for the time period, February 2009 through January 2010. For this period, a Buford customer's yearly bill averaged $963.82, while the next lowest was $965.17 (Fireside). Other figures included $1,003.03 (Walton EMC), $1,048.56 (Scana) and $1,063.85 (Georgia Natural). According to the chart, the highest rate was $1,063.95 (Mxenergy).
