SNELLVILLE — Northwest Whitfield began its Deep South Classic Tournament title defense with a dominant 79-40 victory over Providence on Tuesday night.
Four players scored in double figures for Northwest Whitfield (8-2), led by a double-double from junior Carley Fetzer. Fetzer had 14 points and 10 rebounds, while junior Taylor Barker added 14 points off the bench for the Bruins. Senior Stephanie Cailor led Providence (5-5) with 14 points and junior Erika Gotfredson had 13 points for the Stars. After trailing Northwest Whitfield 21-11 at the end of the first quarter, Providence opened the second quarter on an 8-0 run, led by five straight points from Gotfredson, to cut the lead to 21-19, the game’s smallest margin.More like this story
