LAWRENCEVILLE -- Timothy Swiney announced this morning that he has formally withdrawn as a candidate for Gwinnett County Commission chairman.

In an announcement posted on his website, Swiney said he made the decision because he feels that family obligations require his full-time attention.

"As many of my supporters already know, I am in the process of adopting a 21-month-old toddler and a six-month-old infant," Swiney wrote. "My youngest has recently been identified as 'special needs' due to traumatic childhood injuries and I feel that at this critical point in her development I cannot justify running a full-time political campaign."
