Gwinnett Daily Post
ESTERO, Fla. — The Gwinnett Gladiators couldn’t overcome a Florida’s second-period surge and lost their ninth straight game Tuesday.
The Gladiators have earned just one point for an overtime loss in that span, which is on the verge of tying a franchise record.
Florida was the most recent to beat Gwinnett, 4-2, and has a chance to do it again in a rematch tonight at Germain Arena in Estero, Fla.
Danick Paquette’s goal tied the game 1-1 less than 30 seconds after the Everblades opened the scoring. Paquette found a loose puck in the slot and rolled it past Jaroslav Janus at 9:52.
But Florida’s Matt Beca restored the lead at 12:16 of the first and made it 3-1 on an unassisted short-handed goal 5:11 into the second. That goal proved to be the difference after the Gladiators got one more in the third.
Michael Forney deflected Tim Miller’s shot from the right wing circle past Janus at 4:15 of third.
Gwinnett also got an assist on the play from Will Colbert, but three consecutive penalties took away the Gladiators momentum.
