Archer wins county JV title
Archer’s junior varsity wrestling team had nine wrestlers in the finals on its was to the Gwinnett County championship on Saturday. The second-year program won the title for the second year, getting county titles from Brandon Weber, Orlando Nawade and Derrick Lester.
FCA Gwinnett to host lacrosse camp
The Gwinnett Fellowship of Christian Athletes organization will host its first Polar Bear Lacrosse Camp on Dec. 27 from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Gary Pirkle Park in Sugar Hill.
The event is open to boys between fourth grade and 12th grade. Full equipment with mouth guards are required. Registration begins at 8:45 a.m. and a rainout day is scheduled for Dec. 28. Cost is $15 per player.
College coaches from Berry, Oglethorpe, Shorter and Piedmont will work with the eighth- through 12th-graders, while Gwinnett high school coaches will train the fourth- through seventh-graders.

Former Silverback captain moves to front office
Rodrigo Rios, who spent six years with the Atlanta Silverbacks as a player, will rejoin the new team as the director of soccer in its relaunch in the North American Soccer League, the club announced Saturday.
Rios, a Chilean international, will oversee the coaching staff and player development for the club. He will play a key role in filling the team’s roster and coaching staff as the season approaches in April.
“After six years with the Atlanta Silverbacks as a player, captain, and staff member I am excited to continue to work with the organization on the re-launch of the pro team,” Rios said. “I know that the community is also very interested to know about the coaching staff. We are working to finalize our selections and are taking all factors into consideration before making our announcement.”
Silverbacks to host open combines
To help fill the roster, the new Atlanta Silverbacks of the North American Soccer League will be holding open combines in the winter at Atlanta Silverbacks Park.
The combines, to be held Jan. 28 to 30, Feb. 18 to 20 and March 4 to 6, will be open to the public. Applications for the combines can be found at www.atlantasilverbacks.com/tryouts.
The Silverbacks announced Dec. 1 that they will field a team in the NASL, which is the United States Soccer Federation’s second-level league behind Major League Soccer. The NASL will field eight teams, and Atlanta will kick off its season April 9 against the NSC Minnesota Stars.

Playoff tickets start at $65 each. Fans who want to guarantee playoff tickets can do so by purchasing 2011 season tickets on the Falcons’ website.
