Red Cross seeking blood donations over holidays

The American Red Cross is asking people to give the perfect gift this holiday season — the gift that helps save lives.

More than 30 blood drives are already scheduled for the Gwinnett area in coming days and months, as the Red Cross tries to combat waning donations that are typical between Thanksgiving and New Year’s due to holiday preparations and travel.

“Loved ones often tell us the best holiday gifts are those that come from the heart,” Red Cross spokeswoman April Phillips said. “Yet we spend hours flipping through circulars, scouring websites and calling retailers to determine the biggest bang for our buck.”

“However, no one can put a price on saving a life.”

Donating blood helps save up to three lives per donation, Phillips said. Those interested can contribute at the Red Cross’ official donation center at 3090 Premiere Parkway in Duluth, or stop by one of the following upcoming blood drives across Gwinnett.
