BUFORD — A faulty tag light led to a traffic stop and a pair of arrests Tuesday, as Gwinnett County police officers said they discovered more than 450 grams of marijuana in the out-of-state vehicle.
Officers pulled the Ford Crown Victoria with South Carolina tags over on Interstate 85 northbound in Buford just before 11:30 p.m. Monday, police reports said. Noticing “two open bottles of Corona,” a strong odor of marijuana and a number of air fresheners in the vehicle, officers asked to search it.
Underneath the spare tire in the trunk, police reportedly found a white plastic bag. Mixed in with dirty laundry they said they found two separate bags, both containing marijuana.
Still packaged, the pot weighed about 460 grams, police said, the equivalent of about a pound.
The driver, 23-year-old Marcus Jerell Watts, and passenger, 23-year-old Calvin Daniel Walker, were both arrested on charges of possession of marijuana with intent to distribute. Both booking sheets list addresses in Clinton, S.C.
