With training camp less than two months away, the new Georgia Force started building its roster for the 2011 Arena Football League season with the signing of seven offensive linemen Wednesday.
Topping the list are former Ole Miss standout Daverin Geralds and rookie Sergio Render. After his college career at Ole Miss, the 6-foot-2, 285-pound Geralds spent time in NFL training camp with both the Cleveland Browns and New Orleans Saints before eventually signing and playing the 2010 season with the Montreal Alouettes of the Canadian Football League. Render (6-4, 310) was on the preseason Outland Trophy watch list during his senior season as a starting guard at Virginia Tech. He was signed as a non-drafted free agent by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers last summer before being released. Also signing with the Force on Wednesday were Jake Seitz, a 6-2, 285-pound former All-Conference USA lineman at Alabama-Birmingham, Stephen Sene, a 6-5, 318-pound tackle out of Liberty University who played for the Force franchise when it was the Alabama Vipers last season, Kevin McAlmont, a 6-3, 305-pounder who has spent time with the New York Giants and Denver Broncos of the NFL, the New Orleans VooDoo of the old AFL and in NFL Europe, Ray Norell, a 6-6, 315-pouner out of the University of Buffalo, and Dion Small, a 6-3, 310-pound former two-time All-Sun Belt Conference lineman out of Troy. The Force open the first AFL season since the old league disbanded in 2008 on March 13, when they play host to the Tulsa Talons with a 4:05 p.m. kickoff at the Arena at Gwinnett Center.More like this story
