Brookwood’s football team has plenty of reasons to celebrate, most recently its first national ranking, at No. 24, by USA Today.
That honor came on the heels of last Saturday’s 52-38 victory over Colquitt County in the Georgia Dome, giving the Broncos their first Class AAAAA state championship and first football title since 1996, when AAAA was Georgia’s largest class.
Rather than wait for a community-wide celebration, Brookwood will host a pep rally at 6:30 p.m. Thursday in the high school’s new gym. The event is open to the public.
“We’ll introduce the team and coaches, the band will be there,” Brookwood head football coach Mark Crews said. “We’ll have little football and water bottles to give out and things like that. It’s just something to celebrate the championship before everybody leaves for the holidays. After this week, most people won’t be back here until January.”
The Broncos finished 14-1 this season, tying a school record for victories.
