Venture Sports hosts Toys for Tots

LAWRENCEVILLE — This is the 12th year Doug Reid has run the Venture Sports Shows Toys for Tots campaign. This year the event is back at the Village Shoppes at Creekside in Lawrenceville Friday though Sunday.

More than 75 athletes will be on hand during the three-day period, signing autographs in return for donated toys. Fans are asked to bring unwrapped toys of at least $10 in value that are exchanged for tickets redeemable for autographs.

The event runs from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. each day and there will be a collectibles show held in conjunction with the autograph signing. For a full list of athletes who will be signing, go to www.venturesports.org.

Buford girl debuts album

BUFORD — Ele Gilliland is releasing her debut album, “Your Girl,” at 1 p.m. Saturday at the LifeWay Christian Store at the Mall of Georgia.

Ele, 13, sang her first solo when she was 4 years old. Growing up, she opted to take dance, piano and acting classes. She was a member of Kids on Broadway, performing in musicals in several Atlanta theaters.

She spent the summer in Nashville recording her debut album. Ele describes it as a blend of blue-eyed soul and a fusion of R&B, pop and rock.

Lawrenceville VIC hosts food drive

LAWRENCEVILLE — The Lawrenceville Visitor Information Center will be hosting a canned food drive through Dec. 22 at its location at 233 E. Crogan St.

All canned goods will benefit the Lawrenceville Cooperative Ministry, whose mission is to assist individuals and families in need by providing food and limited emergency financial assistance.

For every five cans donated, individuals will be entered into a drawing to win Lawrenceville downtown dollars redeemable at more than 25 participating locations.

The Lawrenceville VIC is open Monday through Saturday and offers free local and regional information, rocking chairs, a clean public restroom, Wi-Fi access and a pet-friendly environment.
