The Atlanta Track Club honored the top high school cross country athletes and coaches in Georgia with a Tuesday banquet at the Westminster Schools.
Among the honorees were three state boys coaches of the year with Gwinnett ties, including Brookwood’s Ben Dehnke and Wesleyan’s Chad McDaniel. Dehnke led the Broncos to the Class AAAAA state title and McDaniel coached the Wesleyan boys to the title in Class A.
St. Pius coach Ryan McClay, a Dacula grad, also was honored as a boys coach of the year.
Mill Creek’s Austin Boetjke, Peachtree Ridge’s Josh Brickell, Brookwood’s Michael Giuliano, Wesleyan’s Bradley Gossett, Parkview’s Alec Klassen, Brookwood’s Morgan Malanoski, Parkview’s Steven Spevacek, Brookwood’s Jason Wearn and Peachtree Ridge’s Matt Weickert were selected as all-metro runners by the club.
On the girls side, the local runners selected to the all-metro team were North Gwinnett’s Jordan Humphrey, Peachtree Ridge’s Lauren Kelly, Collins Hill’s Chloe Whitworth and Sydney Williams and Norcross’ Katherine Yost.
The club also inducted four new members into its hall of fame: Pope’s Nona Allen, Milton’s Ian Dickinson, Lassiter’s Ed Hutcherson and U.S. Track and Field official Dick Moss.
