TAMPA — Collins Hill had nine wrestlers place on the way to a second-place finish at the Cougar Invitational on Saturday.
Nationally ranked Brandon (Fla.) won the tournament with 293 points, while Collins Hill finished with 213.5. Nick Holbert was Collins Hill’s only tournament champion at 215 pounds. Sean Russell (103), Drew Ferguson-Mitchell (112), Bazell Partridge (125) and Mac Bennett (189) finished second. Steven Bradtmueller (140) was third, Andrew Krawulski (152) and Zac Carmin (285) were fifth and Michael Spikes (160) placed sixth. WRESTLING Broncos 11th at Slam GREENVILLE, S.C. — Brookwood had three placers as it finished 11th at the Southern Slam on Saturday. Sean Thomas won the 112-pound weight class, while freshman Wyat Jozwowski (103) and Tolupe Aderinwale (189) were fourth. Millhof wins Southern Slam GREENVILLE, S.C. — Archer freshman Ryan Millhof won the Southern Slam at Eastside High School on Saturday. The tournament is the largest in South Carolina and features 36 teams from five states. Millhof won three of his five matches by pin. He had a technical fall in the 103 pound finals as Archer finished in 25th place. Archer also finished third at the Stockbridge Tiger Invitational behind tourney champion Joe Durnell and runner-up Hunter McCleskey. Isaiah Hunt and Zach Wright finished third and Chaz Bentley was fourth. The Tigers also had nine placers at the Bulldog Invitational: Brandon Weber (first), Josh Evans (first), Tommy Do (second), Jalen McCorvey (second), Derrick Lester (third), Zoe Castaneda (third), Nick Wilham (third), Robby Kwarteng (third) and Orlando Nawade (third). SWIMMING/DIVING Wolves edge Hawks NORCROSS — With most of both teams’ year-round swimmers at the state championship meet, Wesleyan edged Mill Creek in both boys (166-138) and girls (172-136) competition this past weekend. Wesleyan got victories from Chase Bartlett (200 freestyle, 1 minute, 50.68 seconds and 100 butterfly, 55.08), Erika Ramsey (200 free, 2:06.52 and 100 free, 56.19), Will Gregory (200 individual medley, 2:09.16 and 100 breaststroke, 1:03.45), Timothy Marsh (50 free, 22.60 and 100 free, 49.85), Zach Hernandez (diving, 303.35), Lauren Hall (diving, 287.30) and Ben Spears (100 backstroke, 58.38). Mill Creek’s event winners were Madison Gibson (200 IM, 2:21.46 and 100 back, 1:04.03), Morgan Elliott (50 free, 26.03 and 100 fly, 1:02.34), Kevin White (500 free, 5:03.31), Erin Shay (500 free, 5:49.62) and Joy Na (100 breast, 1:12.40).More like this story
