LAWRENCEVILLE — Rebuilding one of Gwinnett’s busiest intersections could get in the way of a lot of drivers, so transportation officials are asking for public input on plans to detour traffic during the construction of the new interchange at Ga. Highway 316 at Ga. Highway 20.

An open house to discuss the proposed detours is scheduled for 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Georgia Gwinnett College’s administration building at 1000 University Center Lane.

• What: Public information meeting on Ga. 316/Ga. 20 construction detours

• When: 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday

• Where: Georgia Gwinnett College’s administration building, 1000 University Center Lane, Lawrenceville

Bids are expected to be considered this summer for the reconstruction, which will also replace the traffic signal on Ga. 316 at Collins Hill Road.

“The project will build an interchange at this location,” said Georgia DOT district engineer Todd McDuffie. “Two detours will be needed during construction. Each detour will last for approximately one month while substantial grade changes are made to accommodate the new interchange configuration. The project is targeted to be let for bid next summer with construction beginning in the fall. We will share more details at the open house. Please come and find out what will happen and why.”

For those unable to attend Tuedsay’s meeting, information can be viewed at the Georgia DOT Area Office at 145 Hurricane Shoals Road in Lawrenceville. Call 770-339-2308 to make an appiontment.

The plans will also be available online at the DOT website at www.dot.ga.gov. On the home page choose “Public Outreach” and select Gwinnett and choose go. A list of DOT projects in that county will appear and you can select the one you’d like to view.
