BUFORD — The Georgia Department of Transportation has scheduled bridge beam setting over Interstate 85 South in Buford for this week, as part of the widening of Ga. Highway 324.
Weather permitting, work will take place between 8 p.m. and 5 a.m. each night Monday through Friday. The outside lane on each side of the Ga. Highway 324 bridge will be closed for about half a mile as 12 sections of beams are placed. Each night after midnight, all southbound interstate traffic will be stopped for about 10 minutes while each beam section is lifted. The project will widen the existing two-lane roadway to a four-lane divided highway for approximately 0.8 miles across the interstate. It will complete the widening of Ga. Highway 324 from Ga. Highway 20 to Ga. Highway 124. Funded by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, the project is estimated to cost $11.2 million.More like this story
