Buford's Thomas, Eagle duo lead all-state softball honors

Buford’s Chelsie Thomas and the Collins Hill pair of Kayla Floor and Mckenzie Halstead took home top individual awards after voting for the Georgia Athletic Coaches Association all-state fastpitch softball teams this week.

Thomas was named the Class AA player of the year after leading the Wolves to their fourth straight state title. She hit .435 with 40 runs scored and 27 stolen bases as a senior.

The Collins Hill standouts, both juniors, took the top two awards in AAAAA — Floor as pitcher of the year and Halstead as player of the year — after helping the Eagles to their second straight state championship.

Floor went 23-2 with a 0.85 ERA and 186 strikeouts in 1571⁄3 innings and Halstead hit .442 with seven home runs and 39 RBIs.
