GREENVILLE, S.C. — The Greenville Road Warriors took over sole possession of first place in the South Division, thrashing the Gladiators 7-1 on Thursday night at the BI-LO Center.
Greenville (14-5-1) went 3-for-6 on the man advantage, handing the Glads (12-5-4) their worst loss of the season. Julien Brouillette opened the scoring 13:16 into the first, beating Chris Carrozzi with a shot from the point on the man advantage for a 1-0 Road Warriors lead. Greenville’s offense erupted for four goals in the second. Mark Voakes made it 2-0 at 11:59, rookie Marc-Olivier Vallerand notched his tenth of the season on the powerplay less than a minute later at 12:45, and Blake Parlett pushed the lead to 4-0 at 16:59 on the powerplay. Brandon Wong tacked on another goal at 18:44 to give the Warriors a five-goal lead heading into the third. Gwinnett broke up the shutout at 4:31 of the third, as Sam Roberts put a long shot over the shoulder of Dov Grumet-Morris with assists to Mike Forney and Aaron Bendickson, but Greenville came back to cap the game with two more goals. Brendan Connolly scored his twelfth at 9:49, and Vallerand found the back of the net for the second time on the night shorthanded at 10:53 to cap a decisive 7-1 Road Warriors win. The Gladiators are back in action tonight at 7:35 at the Arena at Gwinnett Center against the South Carolina Stingrays.More like this story
