Gwinnett Place to host LEGO Brick Drive
DULUTH — Gwinnett Place Mall is hosting a LEGO Universe Brick Drive from 2 to 5 p.m. Saturday in front of Mega Mart.
The event is part of a nationwide initiative to set up Brick Drives in the top 15 markets in the country, all benefiting local charity organizations. Saturday’s event, presented by Warner Interactive, will collect new LEGO bricks for holiday donations to Salvation Army’s Angel Tree Foundation.
Those who donate new LEGO toys can win giveaways or enter a drawing for copies of LEGO Universe and a one-year subscription to online gaming.
Collection bins will remain to receive donations until Dec. 14.
Pennamon Jr. making his musical debut
DULUTH — Herman Pennamon Jr. is making his musical debut Friday at the Gwinnett Place Marriott.
Pennamon, a community relations manager for Georgia Power, has been named one of Gwinnett’s people to know by Gwinnett Magazine. He’s also an R&B singer who dove into the music scene at age 13 with his band, The Soul Groovers.
The evening of entertainment, dining and dancing begins at 8 p.m. Friday at the Marriott at 1775 Pleasant Hill Road in Duluth. Business attire is required. Admission is $50 per ticket or $500 per table. A contribution will be made to a nonprofit organization.

Artists to host meet and greet to discuss work
DULUTH — The photography of Bill Vanderford and paintings of Lake Lanier artist Anne Brodie Hill will be featured throughout December at Chocolate Perks in Duluth.
The artists will be at the bistro for a meet and greet from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday to discuss their work.

Snellville gallery celebrates grand opening
SNELLVILLE — Cobble Creek Studios and The James H. Ankrom Gallery is having its grand opening from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday. The gallery is located at 2257 Scenic Highway in Snellville.
The first exhibition includes paintings by Wanda Locke and sculptural ceramic works by Dennis Craig.
The grand opening will feature refreshments. Instructors of art classes will on hand with class schedules.

Sweetwater student named fitness MVP
LAWRENCEVILLE — Lourdes Orozco, a seventh-grader from Sweetwater Middle School, was one of 11 First Down for Fitness MVPs honored Sunday by the Atlanta Falcons.
The Falcons First Down for Fitness Program, in its fourth year, is a three-month program designed to challenge third- through seventh-grade students throughout Georgia to participate in fitness activities, eat healthy and lead a healthy lifestyle. The program incorporates components of the NFL’s Play 60 program, the American Heart Association and the Southeast United Dairy Industry Association’s Fuel Up to Play 60 nutrition program.
The 11 Falcons First Down for Fitness MVPs were nominated by their teachers and selected from out of 28,811 students in the program. The MVPs received the honor for participation in physical fitness activities at least 60 minutes five days a week and maintaining healthy eating habits.
