BUFORD — Kylie Kleinschmidt threw seven perfect innings, but Providence was still forced to settle for a scoreless tie after the time limit expired in a pool-play game of the Buford Invitational softball tournament Friday night.
Kleinschmidt recorded 15 of her 21 outs via strikeout, including fanning 11 of the first 12 batters she faced.
But the Stars (7-3-2) were only able to manage single hits by Jessie Kowalewicz, Lauren Eggert and MacKenzie Tuttle, with Kowalewicz adding a stolen base.
Brookwood 8, Milton 4
SNELLVILLE — Jessica Neidigh went 3-for-4 with a triple and two runs scored at the plate and was the winning pitcher as the Broncos downed the Eagles on Friday at home.
Rachel Rhodes and Jenny Blackwell each had a hit and drove in two runs, while Megan Litumbe and Mandi Blackwell each added a hit and an RBI for Brookwood (8-4).
Dacula takes two at tourney
The Falcons (6-2) won twice Friday at the Hawk-Bulldog Invitational at North Gwinnett, beating the host Bulldogs 4-3 and Mountain View 9-8.
Taryn Anthony went 3-for-8 with two RBIs on the day, while Brittany Taylor went 4-for-8 with two doubles and two RBIs.
Jenny Willis and Keeli Waugh each picked up wins in the circle, with Willis also going 2-for-4 against and Waugh going 1-for-3 against Mountain View.
Katie McMillan also contributed two hits and an RBI in the win over North.
North splits pair
The Bulldogs (8-3) split their two games at home Friday in the Hawk-Bulldog Invitational, beating Oconee County 6-4 and losing to Dacula 4-3.
Miranda Strother hit a walk-off home run in the win over Oconee, while Caroline Rogers added two hits, including a homer, while Sydney O’Neill, Tori Prince and Alex McDavid also added hits. Alaina Hall (2-0) gave up just two hits and struck out one in three innings to get the win in relief.
Against Dacula, Mandy Spangler went 2-for-2 with a homer, while O’Neill was also 2-for-2, McDavid added a pair of hits and Tori Freedman and Heather Maddox also contributed a hit each.
Buford 3, Union Co. 2
BUFORD — The Wolves rallied for two runs in the bottom of the fifth to defeat the Panthers at the Buford Invitational on Friday at home.
Chelsie Thomas went 2-for-2 with a triple, two stolen bases and two runs scored, while Kallie Case added a hit and an RBI and Karly Fullem was 1-for-3.
Melissa Dickie threw a complete game, scattering five hits and two runs over five innings with five strikeouts.
St. Pius X 5, Lanier 2
FLOWERY BRANCH — Lauren Pettit was 2-for-3 with an RBI and Hannah Coursey went 2-for-3, but the Longhorns still fell to the Golden Lions, ranked No. 8 in the state in Class AAA, on Friday.
Megan Kellett took the loss in the circle, but also had a double at the plate.
