Taekwondo artist wins gold medal in championship

LAWRENCEVILLE — Vikram Chaudhary of GVC World Taekwondo recently won a gold medal in the 17th annual U.S. National Taekwondo Federation International Taekwondo Championships in Chicago.

Chaudhary also officiated as a judge and international referee for both Junior and Senior Black Belt teams at this prestigious event.

Chaudhary has been in the field for about 17 years and has achieved awards in state, national and international championships. He is a Black Belt 2nd Dan Kukkiwon-certified taekwondo artist. Kukkiwon is the World Taekwondo Headquarters, the international governing body for taekwondo.

Taekwondo is a Korean martial art and refers to the power of the foot and the fist. It is an art that not only teaches self-defense, but is also an ingredient for physical and mental fitness, exercise and meditation.

Duluth Allstate agency owner honored for customer service

DULUTH — As a business leader and involved resident in the Duluth area, Allstate exclusive agency owner Neil Pan has been designated a Premier Service Agency for 2010.

Bestowed upon less than 30 percent of Allstate’s 12,000 agency owners across the country, this designation was presented to Pan for his commitment to exceeding customer expectations in their agency.

The Premier Service Agency designation is awarded to Allstate agency owners who have consistently met designated levels in customer service and business performance.

DAR chapter celebrates Constitution Week

DULUTH — The William Day Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution will host Gwinnett District Attorney Danny Porter as part of its Constitution Week observance at 12:30 p.m. Sept. 9 at the Parc at Duluth, located at 3155 Peachtree Industrial Blvd.

Porter will speak to the group about the Constitution of the United States.

During his terms as district attorney, Porter has continued to prosecute cases in the courtroom ranging from drug possession to capital murder. Several of these high-profile cases have received national attention, including the expansion of the Victim-Witness Program providing services to crime victims. The Gwinnett Victim-Witness Program has received recognition as best in the state.

The William Day Chapter of the DAR focuses on enhancing education, historic preservation and promoting patriotism in the Gwinnett country area, including the cities of Norcross and Duluth.

The chapter meets on the second Thursday of each month from September to May. Visitors are welcome to come and learn more about the Chapter and its legacy of service.

Elementary school hosts blood drive

BUFORD — White Oak Elementary School is hosting an American Red Cross blood drive from 2 to 7 p.m. Tuesday in the school cafeteria.

Those with students at the school should return an appointment slip to their child’s teacher. Every student who recruits a donor will receive a special gift.

Donors need to bring photo identification to the appointment.

Collins Hill cheerleaders receive awards at cheer champ

SUWANEE — The Collins Hill High School cheerleaders participated in summer camp in July at the National Cheer Association in Tybee Island.

The cheerleaders won several awards, and all squads earned a spirit stick and received superior ratings.

The following received All American Nominations:

• Varsity Football cheerleaders — Ashley Hamilton, Amanda Henderson, Kylie Ridenour, Sarah Mantell, Britney Dean, Jasmin Revels, Hayley Keen, Jessica Hughes, Brooke Johnson and Kailey Young

• Junior Varsity Basketball cheerleaders— Kellie Murphy

• Junior Varsity Football cheerleaders — Brandi Ryan, Nicole Caspari, Kayla Whitaker, Reya Padilla and Alyssa Quinones

• Freshmen cheerleaders — Brooke Jenson

Additionally, Brittney Dean, a varsity football cheerleader, received a top award and was named Top All American by the NCA staff.

Other awards received include the following:

• Freshman squad — “Game Time” Top Team

• Junior Varsity Basketball squad — “Best Championship Chant” for having the best motions

• Varsity Football and Junior Varsity Football squads — “Performance” Top Team
