LAWRENCEVILLE -- Investigators say a child molestation suspect at the Gwinnett County Jail tried to pay $75,000 to have his family killed before they could testify against him this week.
An undercover homicide investigator posed as a hitman and was offered the money by Duluth resident Raymond Wesner, 35, to knock off his family prior to a bond hearing in Gwinnett Superior Court on Monday, said Gwinnett police spokesman Cpl. Edwin Ritter
Wesner's cellmate had tipped off authorities after hearing him soliciting for a hitman, police said.
"He wanted his family killed so they couldn't testify against him in court," Ritter said.
Wesner was originally arrested April 22 after a preteen female relative told special victims unit investigators that he'd molested her, Ritter said.
In addition to aggravated child molestation charges, Wesner faces three counts each of attempted murder/threatening a witness and conspiracy to commit the crime of murder.
Police served the new warrants as Wesner appeared in court this week, police said. He remains jailed without bond.
