LILBURN -- The body of a 28-year-old Atlanta man who fell from a boat into the waters of Lake Lucerne on Friday evening was recovered Saturday morning.
Shortly after 11:30 a.m., the body was pulled from the lake by members of the Gwinnett Fire Swiftwater Rescue Team and divers from the Forsyth County Fire Department.
The man had gone into the water along with a woman who was rescued Friday night. Firefighters and dive teams responding to a cove near U.S. Highway 78 in Lilburn had to suspend rescue efforts about 9:30 p.m. due to weather and darkness but resumed the search Saturday morning.
Crews were able to rescue the woman using a throw rope bag.
The man and woman had been on a pontoon boat with the woman's 10-year-old son, who remained on the boat. The woman admitted the two had consumed alcohol before going out on the lake and were not wearing life jackets at the time.
The man's body was found in the general area identified by witnesses who reported seeing the main flailing in the water for a brief time before going under and never resurfacing.
The name of the victim is expected to be released by the medical examiner's office once a positive identification of the body is made and the next of kin is notified.
