LAWRENCEVILLE -- Lawrenceville First Baptist Church will celebrate the completion of a $4 million, 18-month renovation and expansion project this Sunday.
With financing from United Community Bank and member gifts, the church broke ground in February 2009. The church constructed new ministry spaces for children and a new choir suite. The project also included renovations of the church's fellowship hall, preschool space, office area and adult education center.
"Basically, it was building for the future," said Senior Pastor Inman Houston, who has been with the church for 21/2 years. "We understand the young families of the community constitute the future. We want this to be a place of worship, discipleship and service for them."
Lawrenceville First Baptist Church is one of Gwinnett's oldest churches, constituted in May 1849. Its Clayton Street location has expanded since 1906, according to the church's website.
Houston estimates about 350 people attend for Sunday services but the membership is even larger.
Community members are welcome to join the church in a celebration service and lunch at 10:30 a.m. Sunday. For more information, call 770-963-5121.
