LILBURN — Lilburn police have fingered two suspects in last week’s beating and robbery of a 70-year-old female business owner.
One suspect is in custody, the other on the lam. The alleged beating isn’t the first crime the Lilburn residents have worked in concert, police said Thursday.
Police believe Liedi Torres, 37, brutally assaulted and robbed Judith McGraw on Friday in the parking lot of her Lilburn business, McGraw Auto Body. McGraw had just returned from a local bank, where she cashed paychecks for employees, and was likely trailed before the assault, police said.
McGraw endured two broken ribs and severe bruising to her chest.
Police believe Torres fled the 4450 Lawrenceville Highway scene in a silver Pontiac Grand Am just before 11 a.m., making out with more than $3,000. She remains at large, Lilburn police spokesman Capt. Bruce Hedley said.
Police identified the get-away driver Thursday as Matthew Alexander Zorsila, 50. He’s jailed on unrelated charges and will be charged with robbery, Hedley said.
Hedley said the duo worked together — and were subsequently arrested — earlier this summer when they shoplifted items from a Lilburn Wal-Mart.
Torres will face charges of robbery and aggravated battery on a person over age 65. The Gwinnett County Sheriff’s Department’s fugitive team has joined the hunt for her, Hedley said.
As for the elderly victim, Hedley said she’s slowly recovering.
“She’s back to work,” Hedley said. “She’s in good spirits.”
