It's an event that will combine music and sports -- rock and roll and country tunes performed live with appearances and autograph signings by athletes and coaches.

The Rock & Jock Family Fest will kick off at 5 p.m. Saturday at Town Center Park sponsored by the city of Suwanee and radio station 790 The Zone and featuring New Orleans-based band Cowboy Mouth and local country crooner Andy Velo. As performers take the stage players, coaches, mascots and cheerleaders from Atlanta area teams -- the Hawks, Thrashers, Dream, Gladiators and Yellow Jackets -- will sign autographs and meet and greet festival-goers.

A battle of the bands competition will open the event featuring Wild Wing Cafe's contest finalists Square One and Nathan Morgan Band. The competition will be followed by Velo taking the stage about 7 p.m. and Cowboy Mouth at 8.

"It's nice to combine a music event with a sports event right before fall football season kicks off as well," said Amy Doherty, event coordinator for the city of Suwanee.

Those who attend the Rock & Jock Fest are invited to bring along blankets, lawn chairs and picnics. Food and beverages, including wine and beer, will be available for purchase.

A free shuttle from the Shawnee North Business Center at 305 Lawrenceville-Suwanee Road will be available to transport festival attendees to the park from 5:30 to 10:30 p.m.
