LAWRENCEVILLE -- Police have identified the woman hit by a train near Gloster and Oak roads in Lawrenceville Monday evening, ruling the incident a suicide -- almost two years to the date after another woman took her own life near the same intersection.

Monday's victim has been identified as 60-year-old Barbara K. Herrington of Lawrenceville. Her residence is listed as one nearby on Oak Road.

The conductor of the southbound CSX train reported seeing Herrington "walk out of the foliage on his left" before blowing his horn to alert her.

She then sat down on the tracks with her back toward the train, the conductor said, and he activated the train's brakes. After she "stood up for a moment," Herrington sat back down on the tracks, he said.

The train did not stop in time. The incident happened at about 5:20 p.m., CSX spokesman Gary Sease said.

The Herrington family could not be reached Tuesday.

On Aug. 11, 2008, police found the body of 22-year-old Lawrenceville woman Mubina Beato near the tracks close to the same intersection of Gloster and Oak Roads. She had been struck by a train the previous night.

That incident was ultimately ruled a suicide as well, police spokesman Cpl. Brian Kelly said Tuesday.

Like Herrington, Beato lived in close proximity to the tracks, Chief Forensic Examiner Ted Bailey said at the time.
