Lilburn police seek robbery suspect

LILBURN -- Lilburn police are searching for a person of interest they believe may have knowledge about a 70-year-old woman who was robbed and brutally assaulted at her workplace Friday morning.

The elderly employee of McGraw Auto Body/Collision was robbed in the parking lot there after returning from a local bank, where she had cashed paychecks for a number of her employees, police spokesman Capt. Bruce Hedley said Tuesday.

Investigators believe a suspect followed the victim from the bank before assaulting her and taking the money, cracking two of the woman's ribs and severely bruising her chest.

The suspect fled the scene at 4450 Lawrenceville Highway in a silver Pontiac Grand Am at about 10:55 a.m., making out with more than $3,000, Hedley said.

"This is a 70-year-old lady that's a business owner, an outstanding citizen that's trying to do the right thing," Hedley said. "For this to happen is a travesty considering her age."

The person of interest is described as a white or light-skinned Hispanic female of thin build believed to be in her late 20s. She entered the bank just after the victim, left just after her and matches the description of the assailant, Hedley said.

Even if she was not the robbery suspect, Hedley believed she would have information regarding the incident.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call Det. Jeff Kinney at 770-921-2211.
