Pedestrian struck, killed by CSX train

LAWRENCEVILLE -- A southbound train headed to Atlanta struck a pedestrian in Lawrenceville on Monday evening, killing the adult female victim.

The unidentified woman was found deceased at the scene near Gloster Road and Oak Road when emergency personnel arrived at about 5:50 p.m., Gwinnett County fire spokesman Capt. Tommy Rutledge said.

CSX spokesman Gary Sease said the 90-car train was en route from Hamlet, N.C., when it struck the pedestrian at about 5:20 p.m.

Firefighters, police and CSX representatives crowded the scene well into the night Monday, but "circumstances surrounding the event" were unknown, Rutledge said.

Gwinnett police spokesman Cpl. Brian Kelly said he expected a report from the police department's Accident Investigation Unit this morning.
