LAWRENCEVILLE -- Nearly 3,300 more students enrolled in Gwinnett County Public Schools by the beginning of the second week of school, bringing the total student count to 159,334 on Monday.
The second of five enrollment counts shows the school system has grown by 3,272 students since the first count was conducted last Tuesday, according to a news release.
As of Monday, the school system is 1,597 students below its forecasted enrollment of 160,931. Previous enrollment histories show the district is still on target to reach that projection.
In the past three years, the school system has added an average of 1,788 students from the second count to the final count, conducted the day after Labor Day.
Last year, the school system grew by 2,739 students in the first week and added 2,174 students between the second week and Labor Day.
The remaining enrollment counts will be conducted Aug. 23 and 30 and Sept. 7.
