SUGAR HILL -- Lanier High School's Athletic Department is building on a tradition started last year at Lanier Middle School.
The annual Lanier High Longhorn Athletic Association Golf Tournament is scheduled for Sept. 17 at the Sugar Hill Golf Club, with teams doing a shotgun start at 8 a.m.
"The success of the tournament last year shows the tremendous support that the community had for their new school before we even opened our doors," Lanier High principal Kerensa Wing said. "We were able to paint the logo and colors on our gym floor with the proceeds, which has helped cement the identity of the school with the students early on."
Athletic director Bill Wells said the high school was "very fortunate to have a great starting point for facilities and equipment."
"However, we must raise funds for additional items such as baseball and softball dugouts, outside storage facilities and supplemental weight room equipment," Wells said. "These improvements are just a few of the items that proceeds of the tournament will go toward."
Sponsorships are $100 for an individual golfer or hole sponsor, $500 for a team sponsor, $1,000 for a par sponsor, $1,500 for a birdie sponsor and $2,500 for a Longhorn Legacy Sponsor.
