LILBURN -- A pedestrian attempting to cross Indian Trail-Lilburn Road was struck and killed Saturday night in Lilburn, police said Monday.
Police identified the victim only as an adult, pending notification of kin.
The victim stepped in front of a 1990 Geo Prizm headed east in the far right lane about 9:49 p.m., near the intersection of Lake Ridge Trail in Lilburn's city limits, said Gwinnett police spokesman Cpl. Brian Kelly.
The victim died at the scene.
Kelly said the area of the roadway where the impact happened is not marked as a crosswalk. The adult driver was the lone occupant of the vehicle and was not injured, he said.
No criminal charges have been filed in the ongoing investigation. Lilburn police requested the county agency handle the case, Kelly said.
Why the pedestrian entered a roadway not marked for foot traffic directly in the path of an oncoming vehicle is under investigation, Kelly said.
