Freddie Freeman hit a two-run homer that put Gwinnett in front for good in the third inning and the Braves defeated the Lehigh Valley IronPigs 6-1 on Thursday night.
The G-Braves pitching staff held the IronPigs to one run, combining for 12 strikeouts and allowing three walks. Mike Minor pitched only 12⁄3 innings in the win and is scheduled to make his first major league start Monday for Atlanta against the Houston Astros. Joe Oretegano (3-8) earned his first win since dropping eight of his last nine starts. Freeman hit his 15th home run of the season and went 3-for-4 with three RBIs. Joe Thurston (2-for-3) and Brandon Hicks (1-for-4) each had an RBI. Today, G-Braves’ RHP Todd Redmond (8-10, 4.51 ERA) is scheduled to face RHP Nate Bump (8-4, 3.33 ERA) of the IronPigs.More like this story
