Cornerstone Christian earns ACSI, SACS accreditation

NORCROSS -- Cornerstone Christian Academy has earned full accredited status from the Association of Christian Schools International and the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools.

Accreditation is a confirmation that the school has met high academic, Biblical and moral standards and is committed to continual school improvement, according to a news release.

"We are so pleased to meet the high standards set by ACSI and SACS and to provide a well-rounded, solid education for those in our community seeking a Christian education environment for their children," said De Ann Crawford, the head of school.

ACSI accreditation is voluntary, but provides a framework by which Christian schools can participate in self-assessment and build sustainable philosophies, vision, mission and goals for continual improvement, the news release states.

Areas of evaluation and development include philosophy and foundations; governance and administrative leadership; home and community relations and student services; personnel; instructional programs; library, media and technology services; crisis planning; safety; health and food/nutrition services; facilities, environment and transportation; character, values and spiritual development of students/children; and continuous school improvement.

Following application, the accreditation process begins with a minimum one-year self-study and culminates with a peer review and an ACSI Commission decision.

ACSI is the largest association of Protestant schools in the world, serving 11 U.S. regions, two Canadian regions and five international regions. In total, ACSI serves more than 5,000 member Christian schools that enroll more than 1.1 million students in more than 100 nations.

SACS, founded in 1895, accredits more than 13,000 schools and school systems throughout the United States and overseas. Specifically, the accreditation process is administered through AdvancED, a unified organization consisting of the SACS Commission on Accreditation and School Improvement and the North Central Association CASI.

The organization is dedicated to advancing excellence in education worldwide through accreditation, research and professional services.
