DULUTH -- Peachtree Ridge kept its undefeated season alive on Wednesday, beating Brookwood 3-0 in the second round of the Class AAAAA state girls tennis playoffs.
The Lions advance to the quarterfinals for the first time in school history.
Peachtree Ridge (18-0) got wins from No. 2 singles player Jessica Northcutt and No. 3 singles player Abby Owens. The No. 1 doubles team of Taylor Cohen and Rachel Anderson also won.
BOYS TENNIS
Brookwood 3, Milton 0
SNELLVILLE -- Brookwood topped Milton 3-0 in the second round of the state playoffs on Wednesday.
Grayson Mills won No. 1 singles and Mark Guentert won No. 3 singles. Chris Eastwood and Matthew Shemanski picked up a win at No. 1 doubles for the Broncos.
BASEBALL
Brookwood 16, Berkmar 1
SNELLVILLE -- Brookwood beat Berkmar 16-1 in three innings on Wednesday.
Lucas Sims pitched two innings and struck out four batters for the win. Offensively, Zac Rinehart went 3-for-3 with a home run, a triple, a double and five RBIs. Trey Hagey was 2-for-2 with two RBIs and Chad Ikerd was 2-for-3 with an RBI. Mike Gouge was 2-for-3 and Trey Martin was 1-for-1 for the Broncos (13-11, 8-5).
South 7, Shiloh 5
SNELLVILLE -- Tyler Patterson allowed one earned run, two hits and struck out five batters in three innings as South defeated Shiloh 7-5 on Wednesday.
Kent Rollins was 1-for-1 with three runs, while Mack Adams finished 2-for-3 with two RBIs. Adam Doss was 2-for-4 with two RBIs and Jamie Suggs went 2-for-3 for the Comets (11-14, 6-7).
Grayson 10, Central 4
GRAYSON -- Grayson claimed a 10-4 win over Central Gwinnett on Wednesday.
Drew Sexton was 2-for-4 with two doubles and an RBI. Will Kimmel went 2-for-4 with two RBIs, a single and a triple, while Taylor Allum was 2-for-4 with an RBI for the Rams. Jo Jo Cruz was the winning pitcher and also went 4-for-4 at the plate for Grayson (13-12, 9-4).
For Central, Phillip Bates went 1-for-3 with a home run and four RBIs, while C.J. Cronic went 1-for-3 with a double and a run. Chris Sekerak was 2-for-3 with a run, Dillon Mackel went 2-for-3 and Curtis Davis stole his 24th base for the Black Knights.
Parkview 15, Dacula 9
DACULA -- Parkview defeated Dacula 15-9 on Wednesday.
The Panthers' Matt Olson was 3-for-4 with three home runs and seven RBIs to lead the offense. Josh Hart (2-for-3, three RBIs), Kenny Miller (two hits), Mnelik Vereen (2-for-3, home run) and Brooks Davis (1-for-1, two RBIs) also had big days at the plate.
Jesse Foster picked up the win for Parkview (22-3, 12-1), going three innings and allowing three hits, one earned run and striking out two.
For Dacula (10-15, 3-10), Steven Williams was 4-for-4 with two home runs and seven RBIs, while Austin Meyer and Tyler Jarvis each went 2-for-4, and Morgan Loyd was 1-for-2.
Buford 13, Johns Creek 5
BUFORD -- Buford collected 13 hits as a team and defeated Johns Creek 13-5 on Wednesday.
James Nix went 2-for-2 with a home run, Tyler White was 1-for-1 with a home run and Adam Schrader was 2-for-3. Jake Burnette (3-1) pitched five innings and gave up two earned runs to register the win for the Wolves (18-7, 7-4).
Peachtree Ridge 5, Duluth 2
DULUTH -- Brett Polachek threw a complete game, giving up two earned runs and striking out four to help Peachtree Ridge to a 5-2 victory over Duluth on Wednesday.
Polachek was 2-for-4 with an RBI at the plate, while Chris Kelly went 1-for-2 with two RBIs. Billy Best and Jared Walsh each hit a sacrifice fly for an RBI for Peachtree Ridge.
North 9, Northview 8
SUWANEE -- North Gwinnett came from behind to beat Northview 9-8 on Wednesday night.
Northview was up 8-2 in the fourth when North Gwinnett rallied to come back for the win. Coty Nash had an infield single with the bases loaded to tie it 8-8 in the seventh. Kenny Knudson scored on a passed ball with the bases loaded for the win.
Nash finished 3-for-4 with a double and three RBIs. Chris Hawkins went 2-for-4 with a double and Seth Bancroft was 2-for-4. Nick Jones was 1-for-3 with a home run. He also pitched 42/3 innings in relief, giving up two runs and striking out seven batters. Will Bates got the win after pitching 1/3 inning for North.
LACROSSE
Wesleyan 9, Blessed Trinity 5
NORCROSS -- Taylor Grice had 14 saves in goal to help Wesleyan take a 9-5 win over Blessed Trinity on Wednesday.
Drew Daniels scored four goals and had an assist, while Harrison Cheeley contributed two goals and an assist, and Davis Brown added a goal and had two assists for the Wolves.
