School board to hear resident input

SUWANEE -- Community members are invited to share their input on the future of Gwinnett County Public Schools by participating in the development of the school system's Strategic Priorities for 2010-2020.

The strategic priorities outline the desired qualities and characteristics for 10 major components of the school district, according to a news release. These components include students; employees; parents and guardians; governance and leadership; curriculum, instruction and assessment; facilities and operations; financial stewardship; information management and technology; communication; and public image and community pride.

The document was developed with input from school and district leaders, along with parent and teacher representatives, the news release states. The school system will accept feedback from the community through the end of May.

Superintendent J. Alvin Wilbanks will discuss the development of the strategic priorities at the two remaining area board meetings, scheduled for 7 p.m. today at Archer High School and 7 p.m. Thursday at Shiloh High School.

A copy of the draft is available on the school system's Web site, www.gwinnett.k12.ga.us. Community members are invited to review the draft and provide input online. The priorities are available for reading in English, Korean, Spanish and Vietnamese.
