SNELLVILLE -- The Parkview Panthers clinched the Region 8-AAAAA title as Austin Wheeler (4-1) pitched the win by striking out six while allowing four hits in a 10-2 win over South Gwinnett on Monday.
Kenny Miller hit 2-for-4 with three RBIs and Brandon Kregel went 1-for-3 with a two-run homer for Parkview (21-3, 11-1). Matt Olson was 2-for-2 with a double, a home run and three RBIs. Menelik Vereen also homered.
St. Francis 3, Providence Christian 2
ALPHARETTA -- Christin Stewart batted 2-for-4 with a double, while Kevin Dodson and Erich Stahl both went 1-for-3 and scored runs, but Providence (12-12, 5-5) lost to St. Francis on Monday.
Providence pitcher Steven Slaughter shouldered the loss, despite striking out five while allowing six hits in 51/3 innings.
Grayson 4, Dacula 2
LOGANVILLE -- Taylor Allum (4-0) struck out five in pitching the complete-game win, as well as going 2-for-3 offensively with a single and a double as Grayson beat Dacula 4-2 on Monday.
Will Kimmel batted 2-for-2 with an RBI, and Clay Ardeeser went 1-for-3 and batted in two for the Rams (12-12, 8-4).
Losing pitcher Oliver Pratt and Matt Volkmer both hit solo homers.
Buford 16, Avondale 0
AVONDALE -- Buford (16-7, 7-4) blanked Avondale 16-0 on Monday in a game shortened to three innings.
Adam Hampton hit 3-for-4 with two RBIs and Zac Nitzel went 2-for-3 with an RBI. Eric Eck chipped in two hits and three RBIs, as well as notched the win by striking out five through two innings.
Berkmar 12, Central Gwinnett 10
LAWRENCEVILLE -- Xavier briggs went 4-for-4 with four RBIs and Jesse Gordon went 3-for-4 with four runs scored as Berkmar edged Central Gwinnett 12-10 on Monday.
Dreyvis Perez added a solo homer and E.J. Cheatham went 3-for-4 with an RBI and scored three runs for the Patriots (6-17, 2-10). Winning pitcher Justin Drake allowed only one run in pitching the sixth and seventh innings.
Collins Hill 6, North Forsyth 1
SUWANEE -- Grant Earls and A.J. Farris both doubled and went 2-for-3 for Collins Hill (19-5, 13-3) in a 6-1 win over North Forsyth on Monday. Morgan Ownbey (7-1) got the win with six scoreless innings, striking out eight.
North Gwinnett 4, South Forsyth 3
SUWANEE -- North Gwinnett (13-11, 9-7) scored four second-inning runs on a three-run triple by Seth Bancroft, who later scored on an infield error to beat South Forsyth 4-3 on Monday.
Jeremy Burns batted 1-for-3 with a double, and Chris Hawkins and Kyle Norton singled. Daniel Szathmary (2-1) hurled the complete-game win, allowing six hits and three earned runs, while striking out five.
Mill Creek 8, Norcross 1
NORCROSS -- Norcross scored an unearned run in the first, but was held down by Mill Creek's pitcher Eric Alonzo, who had five strikeouts through six innings during the 8-1 win Monday.
Greg Brody led the Hawks (19-5, 12-4) by batting 2-for-5 with a three-run homer, while Devin Bonin went 2-for-4 with an RBI. Nick Tillman was 2-for-4 with a double, and Casey Parham chipped in two RBIs with a hit.
Duluth 8, Northview 5
DULUTH -- Duluth (7-17, 2-14) won 8-5 on the road against Northview, thanks to Chris Rich's double and 2-for-4 showing offensively and Jacob Timmie's two singles and two RBIs.
Rich improved to 3-4 by pitching five innings, striking out three while allowing two earned runs. Patrick Riley struck out two in pitching the final two innings.
Central's Powell shoots 81
SNELLVILLE -- Central Gwinnett's Dillon Powell shot an 81 at the Region 8-AAAAA golf tournament last Thursday at Summit Chase Country Club. Powell's 81 placed ninth in the tournament.
