Prep Roundup: Hebron clinches Region 8-A title

HIAWASSEE -- Hebron blasted Towns County on Friday 18-5 in five innings, officially clinching the region 8-A championship.

The Lions (22-1, 14-0) forged out 13 hits with three homers, including grand slams from Christian Davilia (2-for-4) and Matt Stephens (2-for-2).

Jordan Hillyer added a two-run homer, while Ben Mason, Hunter Carroll and Danny Lockhart each had two hits.

Jamie Holt (3-0) started for the win with Drew Edwards pitching three innings of relief.


Duluth 3, South Forsyth 2

DULUTH -- Duluth won its first Region 7-AAAAA game of the season Friday by edging co-leader South Forsyth 3-2.

Starter John Clark went six innings for the Wildcats, striking out four with one earned run. Chris Rich closed out the game with two strikeouts in the seventh.

Alex Raffensperger led the offense for Duluth (6-17, 1-14), going 2-for-2 with a solo home run, while Rich had two hits and an RBI. Evan Dumas and David Matton each added a hit.

Collins Hill 7, Peachtree Ridge 2

SUWANEE -- James Buckelew threw 61/3 innings Friday, striking out 11 with five hits and one earned run to lead Collins Hill to a 7-2 win over Peachtree Ridge in Region 7-AAAAA.

Chris McGowan led the offense for Collins Hill (18-5, 12-3), going 3-for-4 with a solo home run, while Garitt Church finished 2-for-3.

Mill Creek 17, North Forsyth 8

CUMMING -- Mill Creek's Casey Parham went 4-for-5 with a double, home run and five RBIs on Friday as the Hawks streaked past North Forsyth 17-8 in Region 7-AAAAA.

Devin Bonin added a 3-for-4 night with two solo homers and three runs, while Aryan Rodriguez finished 2-for-2 with three runs and two RBIs.

Colby Runnels broke the game open with a pinch-hit grand slam, while Taylor Alexander (2-0) earned the win with 11/3 innings of work in relief of starter Brian Stillwell.

Chip Fleming and Trent Tignor each helped with an inning of relief for the Hawks (18-5, 11-4).

North 15, Norcross 5

NORCROSS -- Nick Jones of North Gwinnett went 3-for-5 with three RBIs and two runs on Friday in the Bulldogs' 15-5 win over Norcross in Region 7-AAAAA.

Chris Hawkins had two hits with an RBI and three runs for North (12-11, 8-7), while Kyle Norton had two hits and an RBI.

Luke Tindol also had a good day with the bat, going 2-for-4 with five RBIs on an inside-the-park home run and a triple.

Will Bates (4-2) logged the win, going 42/3 innings with three earned runs, five strikeouts and five hits, while Ricky Pines threw the final 21/3.

Grayson 7, South 0

SNELLVILLE -- Clay Ardeeser (4-3) of Grayson hurled a one-hit shutout Friday, striking out five with two walks as the Rams blanked South Gwinnett 7-0 in Region 8-AAAAA.

Austin Meadows sparked the offense for Grayson (11-12, 7-4) with a two-run homer, while Drew Sexton drove in a run on two hits.

Central 7, Dacula 0

DACULA -- Central Gwinnett's Taylor Fields (5-1) struck out 10 batters Friday as part of his complete-game shutout in the Black Knights' 7-0 win over Dacula in Region 8-AAAAA.

Dustin Hays went 2-for-3 with a home run for Central (12-10, 7-4), while Phillip Bates homered in three at-bats. Other offensive standouts were Chris Fekerak (2-for-3, double), C.J. Cronic (2-for-4, double, RBI) and Brian Bruce (3-for-4).

Losing pitcher for Dacula was Erik Schrum (3-3), who went 31/3 innings with three runs on seven hits, one walk and one strikeout.

Lance Jenkins led the offense for Dacula (10-13, 3-8), going 2-for-2, while Steven Williams, Dylan Schmidt and Tripp Calhoun each had a hit.

Stephens Co. 7, Mountain View 5

LAWRENCEVILLE -- Stephens County pushed across three unearned runs in the top of the seventh to come away with a 7-5 win over Mountain View in Region 8-AAA.

Garry Gwaltney started for Mountain View (6-18, 3-13) and received a no-decision, pitching four innings with two hits, two earned runs and six strikeouts. Kyle Mitchell was charged with the loss, going 22/3 innings with three strikeouts and five runs (four unearned).

Alex Brock led the offense for the Bears, going 2-for-3 with a run.

Lovett 20, GAC 12

NORCROSS -- In what turned out to be an offensive outburst, Lovett outlasted Greater Atlanta Christian 20-12 on Friday in Region 6-AA.

Taylor Bruner went 4-for-4 for GAC with a double and homer, while Riley Rue finished 3-for-5. John LaMay added two hits, including a double for GAC (7-15), while Robby McPherson finished 2-for-4 with a home run.

Buford 7, Decatur 2

DECATUR -- Buford starter Josh Heddinger struck out 11 on Friday night with three hits allowed in seven innings as the Wolves topped Decatur 7-2 in Region 6-AA.

Buford (15-7, 6-4) mustered just three hits on offense but made them count. Jamie Ritchie had one of those hits with two RBIs, while Troy Herterick (RBI) and Heddinger each had one.

Killian Hill 15, King's Way 3

KENNESAW -- Killian Hill upended King's Way 15-3 in five innings Friday in the Region 1 GCAA playoffs, securing Killian Hill a spot in the GCAA state semifinals.

Kyle Bailey (5-3) started and went all five innings, allowing four hits and three runs with two walks and seven strikeouts.

Bailey also went 1-for-3 at the plate with a double and two RBIs, while Clay Watson was 3-for-3 with three RBIs.

Samuel Winston added three hits and two RBIs for Killian Hill (11-4) with Alex Atterbery driving in three runs on two hits.


Peachtree Ridge 18, Parkview 2

SUWANEE -- Jennifer Hennelly and Michelle Fortier each had five goals Friday in helping Peachtree Ridge down Parkview 18-2 in the Gwinnett County tournament at Collins Hill. The win puts the Lions (10-4-1) into this morning's semifinals at 10:30 against Greater Atlanta Christian.

Erin Palanza earned the win at keeper by saving eight shots.

GAC 17, Grayson 3

SUWANEE -- Greater Atlanta Christian received five goals and an assist from Lyndsey Kytle on Friday as the Spartans cruised 17-3 over Grayson in the Gwinnett County tournament at Collins Hill.

Caroline Freeman added three goals and an assist with Madeline Gray, Kayla Jolly and Casey Cox scoring two goals each. Adding single goals for GAC (10-4) were Missy Roughgarden, Kyra Johnson and Amanda Jordan. The winning goalkeeper was Taylor Martin with seven saves.

GAC will play Peachtree Ridge today at 10:30 a.m. at Collins Hill in the tournament semifinals.


Peachtree Ridge 13, Woodstock 10

WOODSTOCK -- Peachtree Ridge improved to 13-3 on Friday with a 13-10 win over Woodstock.

Leading the Lions was Nick Lombardo with four goals and three assists, while Cory Hall added three goals and two assists. Other scorers were Jarred Harper (two goals, assist), Michael Ruffcorn (goal, three assists), Tyler Botts (goal, assist) and Julian Gonzalez and Tanner Botts (one goal each). Greg Rose saved five shots at keeper.

Centennial 11, Norcross 10, OT

NORCROSS -- David Diamond had four goals and an assist and Cam Coval scored three goals, but it wasn't enough for the Blue Devils, who fell to the visiting Cougars in overtime late Thursday night.

Nick Ehrhart had a goal and an assist and Josh Nezquita and Montgomery Tardy added a goal apiece for Norcross, which fell to 5-5 overall and 3-4 in Area 4-AAAAA.
