SUWANEE -- Suwanee City Hall officially became the greenest in the state on Earth Day.
The year-old building earned Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design certification Thursday, making it the only LEED-certified city hall in Georgia and one of just 21 in the country.
"Suwanee is environmentally conscious," city hall spokeswoman Lynne Bohlman DeWilde said. "We just want to be the best corporate citizen that we can be, and part of that is paying attention to how we save and manage our natural resources."
LEED, a program led by the U.S. Green Building Council, essentially verifies that a building is built and operated in a energy-conscious fashion. Suwanee City Hall, which opened just last year, earned "exemplary performance" LEED credits in maximization of open space, water use reduction and material use.
