SNELLVILLE -- A DUI call turned into a brief police chase and sent the unidentified driver to the hospital in critical condition Wednesday night, Snellville police said.
Police responded to a call just after 8 p.m. and found the suspected drunk driver stopped at Ga. Highway 124 and U.S. Highway 78, Snellville police Chief Roy Whitehead said.
When the driver of the blue Chevrolet pickup truck saw police approaching, he "took off," and squad cars pursued, Whitehead said. Squad cars discontinued the chase when he reached approximately 45 miles per hour at Henry Clower Boulevard.
The driver crashed just after that, police said, and was found in critical condition and airlifted to Grady Memorial Hospital in Atlanta.
Police had still not identified the man.
"I'm sure we will figure that out soon, but I don't have that information," Whitehead said. "He didn't have any identification on him here and we had to get him to the hospital."
