SUWANEE -- Gwinnett Federal Credit Union will make an annual $5,000 donation to the Gwinnett County Public Schools Foundation Fund, the credit union's president said Thursday evening during the school board meeting.
Marshall Boutwell, the president and CEO of Gwinnett Federal Credit Union, made the surprise announcement after awarding scholarships to three students.
"We have a history of supporting education at all levels in Gwinnett and considering the current economic times, it is more important than ever that the business community step up and support the extraordinary education systems in our community," Boutwell said. "It's our work force of tomorrow that's being educated today."
The Gwinnett County Public Schools Foundation Fund is a nonprofit charitable organization dedicated to providing financial resources to enrich and enhance education in Gwinnett County Public Schools.
In addition to this announcement, Boutwell also told the recipient of the Alton C. Crews Scholarship -- Mill Creek senior Alex Reed -- that his scholarship was being increased from $1,500 to $2,500. The two other scholarships, the Louise Radloff Scholarship and the J. Alvin Wilbanks Scholarship, are $2,500 awards.
