On The Menu

• Maytag chips - Kettle-cooked chips smothered in blue cheese crumbles, fresh tomatoes and red onions, $5.99 for a half order and $7.99 for a full

• Black 'n' blue Caesar salad - Cajun-seasoned USDA Choice steak and blue cheese crumbles atop a garden salad, $8.99

• Loaded French dip - House braised roast beef sliced thin and piled high with mushrooms, onions and melted provolone cheese served with a side of au jus and French fries, $7.89

• Sirloin steak - USDA Choice sirloin steak dusted with a secret seasoning served with a baked potato and house salad, $8.99 for a 6-ounce and $10.99 for an 8-ounce.

• Open since: Friends opened for business Monday following a ribbon-cutting ceremony just outside the front entrance, where the owners and their staff gathered as Dacula Mayor Jimmy Wilbanks handled scissors to snip the ceremonial yellow ribbon.

• Location: Friends was previously a Beef O'Brady's and is a corner storefront in a row of businesses along Dacula Road.

• Hours: 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and 11 a.m. to midnight Fridays and Saturdays

• Owners: Buford resident Ray Stanjevich and Dacula resident Steve Hayes together have more than 50-plus years of experience in the restaurant industry.

• Atmosphere: Friends has a typical sports bar atmosphere with 35 TVs lining the walls surrounding the main dining area, which offers booth and table seating. Guests can also pull up a chair at the bar, which has been dubbed The Watering Hole. "The Saloon" is a private dining area just inside the entrance that seats up to 15 people. A covered patio outside features a flowing waterscape.

An additional 1,500 square feet of space was added on to what Beef O'Brady's previously occupied and serves as a separate smoking area, where those 18 and older can play pool, darts and arcade games.

• Menu: Friends offers sports bar fare ramped up a couple notches, from Cajun roasted and salted peanuts to hand-dipped chicken tenders and hand-cut steaks.

The menu runs the gamut of appetizers, salads, soups, burgers, quite a few sandwich selections, wings and house specialties that include barbecue ribs, Cajun chicken pasta and chopped steak.

The signature burger at Friends is the Gooey Louie, two meat patties stuffed with American cheese that oozes out with every bite.

The kids' menu, for those 12 and younger, includes wings, chicken tenders, a grilled cheese sandwich, a quesadilla and macaroni and cheese all served with fries and a drink for $4.25.

Guests can wash down their food with sodas, tea, milk or beer, wine and liquor from the bar.

• Things you might not know: Stanjevich and Hayes met in 1989 while working at a Steak and Ale restaurant.
