DACULA -- Fire destroyed an abandoned house in woods off Braselton Highway near Evonshire Lane in Dacula on Tuesday night, officials said.
A passerby called 911 about 9 p.m. after seeing the woods aglow, and firefighters had the blaze under control about 9:50 p.m. It scorched the home and a portion of the surrounding woods and brush, Fire Department spokesman Capt. Thomas Rutledge said.
The house was situated about 1,500 to 2,000 feet off the roadway.
Braselton Highway, just south of Hamilton Mill Road, was temporarily closed due to fire equipment and water hoses in the roadway.
The exact cause of the fire is under investigation, Rutledge said.
"No one was at the property when the fire department arrived, and no injuries were reported," he said.
