DULUTH -- Police on Monday said the driver responsible for hitting a Gwinnett police officer's vehicle and fleeing the scene remains on the lam.
The driver slammed into a marked Gwinnett County Police Department cruiser stopped at a red light at the intersection of Venture Drive and Steve Reynolds Boulevard about 9:30 p.m. Saturday, police said.
Following impact, the vehicle fled the scene. The officer received minor injuries and was transported via ambulance to a local hospital for evaluation. Police withheld the injured officer's name.
Gwinnett police spokesman Cpl. David Schiralli said Monday investigators are still trying to identify the offending vehicle and its driver.
Schiralli described the car as a 2005 to 2007 silver Buick Lacrosse, last seen turning onto Interstate 85 southbound from Steve Reynolds Boulevard.
"It will be missing part of the bumper, possibly, and will be missing a front headlamp," Schiralli said. "There's also a strong likelihood that the airbags deployed due to the collision."
Police urge anyone with information to call the Gwinnett County Police Department at 770-513-5000.
