Atlanta Braves all-star catcher Brian McCann and his family are planning a summer baseball tournament to benefit youngsters here in Gwinnett.
The inaugural Brian McCann Summer Classic, scheduled for June 18-20 for 9-and-under to 12-and-under teams, will raise money for the youth baseball scholarships supported by the Gwinnett County and Duluth City Parks and Recreation programs. The event will be played at three Gwinnett baseball parks -- Bunten Road, Shorty Howell and Collins Hill.
The tournament will feature pool play into a single elimination championship bracket, with all teams advancing to the championship round. A maximum of eight teams will be allowed in each age group.
All players and coaches of participating teams will receive a free ticket to the Atlanta Braves-Kansas City Royals game on June 19, with additional tickets and parking passes available at discounted rates for family and friends. The players and coaches also will participate in a recognition parade at Turner Field prior to the Braves game.
A Brian McCann gift bag also will go to all players. For more information, contact Sherry McCann at 770-476-3170 or Shermc4@aol.com or Doug Bailey at 404-444-9047 or Doug.Bailey@braves.com.
