BUFORD -- Resurrected from ashes just two years ago, the hard rock band Tantric locked in its current members and finally crafted the album lead singer Hugo Ferreira always wanted to make.
"Mind Control," a compilation of songs written collaboratively by all five band members, was released in August 2009 and is a departure from the more mainstream sound Tantric had produced before.
Currently on tour still showing off its it's broader range, Tantric's schedule will bring the Kentucky-based band to Buford's 37 Main on Wednesday.
With "Mind Control," the band isn't just a reincarnation of the Tantric that released the 2001 self-titled platinum debut and 2004's "After We Go" before throwing in the towel. Tantric today is a collaboration of all five members -- Ferreira on lead vocals, Richie Monica on drums, Joe Pessia on guitar, Erik Leonhardt on bass and Marcus Ratzenboeck on electric violin -- with Ferreira the only member remaining from the band's original incarnation.
Still, longtime Tantric fans will be able to hear earlier hits.
"Our shows, we kind of take all the best songs from all four records," Ratzenboeck said.
What can Gwinnett residents hearing the band live for the first time expect?
"It's definitely in-your-face rock and roll," Ratzenboeck said. "It's going to be loud. Definitely expect not to sit back and relax. It's definitely a high energy show."
Tantric will perform at 8 p.m. Wednesday. Tickets are $10 in advance and $15 at the door, with only those 18 and older admitted. For more information, call 678-288-2030 or visit www.37main.com.
