LAWRENCEVILLE -- The AIA Atlanta Tour Committee is conducting an Under-Construction Tour on Saturday of Georgia Gwinnett College's new Library and Learning Center.
The general public, design and construction professionals and design students will have the opportunity to attend a lecture on the project design and sustainable strategies and ask questions and speak with the project architect and LEED administrator, according to a news release.
Closed-toe, hard-sole shoes and hardhats are required for the tour.
The AIA Atlanta Tour Committee organizes a series of tours of new projects each year in the Atlanta area. These events take place once a month from April to December.
Tours typically run continuously from 2 to 5 p.m. The building tours are given by the architects from the building and provide a behind-the-scenes view of each project.
The tours strive to introduce nonprofessionals to the local architecture community and help them understand the design and construction process of these spaces. The tour series is also an opportunity for architects to learn about new projects, design strategies and building techniques from their colleagues.
The Georgia Gwinnett College tour will cost $10 for members of the U.S. Green Building Council or the American Institute of Architects and $20 for nonmembers. The tour is free for students.
