SUWANEE - Before 120 ladies teed off for a game of golf Tuesday, a celebration of survivors of breast cancer reminded those who attended the Pink Ribbon Classic what the event is all about.

Balloons were released at the River Club Golf Course in Suwanee prior to play to honor breast cancer survivors and memorialize those who have died from the disease. Ken Cook, chief meteorologist for Fox 5 television, emceed the event.

In its third year, the annual golf tournament was expected to net about $35,000 in support of the American Cancer Society's efforts to promote breast cancer awareness.

About a dozen survivors who attended Tuesday's event were presented a hope pin.

"It's a moving ceremony, lots of tears, reminding everybody that's why we're here today, to raise money," said Kevin McQuilken of the American Cancer Society. "When we leave the course today, it's not about the golf event. Everybody remembers that this was a cancer society event."
