LILBURN - Brookwood pitching allowed just two runs in three games, including a pair of shutouts, as the Broncos swept the final day of their invitational.
Brookwood beat Jones County 7-0 to start the day, getting the win from pitcher Jessica Neidigh. Susan Norris, Mandy Blackwell and Rachel Hill all went 2-for-3 in the win. In the second game, the Broncos toppled Flowery Branch 8-0, keyed by three RBIs and a home run from Julia Westbrook and four hits by Neidigh. Hill took the win, not allowing a hit and striking out eight. Brandi Jones won the final game for the Broncos in a 5-2 win over Northgate. She also went 3-for-4 with an RBI at the plate. Rachel Rhodes had three RBIs off two hits for Brookwood (14-10). SOFTBALL Spartans split LILBURN - Christine Young's sac fly in the bottom of the seventh inning scored Sarah Armstrong to give the Spartans a win in their first game Saturday 4-3 over South Gwinnett. Brianna Stewart had three hits and Chaney Means had two in the win for GAC. In the second game, the Spartans could not rally past Flowery Branch, losing 7-5. Celine Tally had two hits and an RBI in the loss for GAC (11-9). CROSS COUNTRY Mill Creek 3rd at Mill Run DOUGLASVILLE - Brittany Westmoreland medaled with a time of 20 minutes, 31 seconds, finishing seventh in the Mill Run on Saturday. Alicia Connolly took 18th, Hanna Hill 30th, Lauren Scott 36th, Caitlin Austin 64th, Rachel Hull 82nd, Alex Ezzell 107th and Kelsey Kennedy 130th for the Hawks who finished third as a team.More like this story
